There is no orientation for astronomy hybrid courses before the course begins. It is all done first day of class in the designated classroom, usually LET 402, at the designated time and date. Check your schedule.
Students do not need any special or exceptional computer skills.
Students taking astronomy hybrid courses do the labs independently; i.e. we do not meet on campus at a designated time to do the labs. Students choose when and where to meet to do the labs. On the other hand, all the discussion related to labs, such as questions and hints, are handled during lectures.
Students have ample time to familiarize themselves with the labs, and ask questions in lecture, or come to my office. Some labs' reports are submitted using Web forms, while others are brought to class (in LET 402), or put in my mailbox (LET 421), or slid under my office door (LET 412D).
We do not use WebCT. I do all the coding myself and handle all the problems. So, unless I can find someone else, blame me for the problems.
So, fear not, register for the course and have some fun learning and doing astronomy.
See you first day of class.
